YPRO Corporation is now offering ICD-10 Training!
YPRO now offers the following remote services through the web:
- Coding Gap Analysis
- Biomedical Analysis by Body System
- Onsite ICD-10 - CM and ICD-10-PCS applied training by AHIMA trained ICD-10 trainers
PHASE I – Gap Analysis
AHIMA suggests training your coders on ICD-10 6-9 months before Oct.1, 2013. They also suggest it will take approximately 50 hours of training per coder. But before the training begins you need to know what the quality of your coding staff would be in the ICD-10 environment. It is critical that they know their medical terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, and Pathophysiology. YPRO’s ICD-10 training program will provide you with a Pre-Training assessment. This assessment is a three part exam that will identify your coders strengths and weaknesses and direct those coders needing further study to resources. (This is above and beyond the 50 hours of training) Coders are given 7 days to take the Pre-Training assessment. Those coders that need extra study will be reassessed within 60 days. You and your coding management team will be able to track each coder’s progress in the training program through YPRO’s web training portal. The Pre-Training assessment is taken under supervision and with no book aides and is a set date and time. The extra study time will be at the convenience of the coder’s time and direction.
When your coders have passed the Pre-Training assessment YPRO will take them through biomedical analysis by body system. There are twenty modules within the biomedical analysis. This review of the body systems will assist the coder in developing a better understanding of the contents of a medical record to obtain the ability to assign the appropriate codes(s), and to query for severity and specificity in the documentation. Your coders can review all the body systems or just the ones they need to improve their knowledge. There is a test at the end of each body system so your coders and you or your coding management team will get immediate feedback on the results of the tests. Coders are given 90 days to accomplish this task. The biomedical analysis by body system can be performed anytime at the convenience of your coders.
As always in planning, it is good to take the time up front to make sure your coders are current and well versed in their knowledge of Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, Pharmacology, and Pathophysiology. It will make the ICD-10 training time learning the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 PCS easier.
PHASE -2- ICD-10 Training
The ICD-10 training consists of 10 modules. Your coders will be tested after each module. Again, as with the pre-training assessment and the biomedical analysis study, you and your management team will be able to track your coders’ progress. The coders are given 90 days to review the 10 modules and take the tests at their convenience.
PHASE-3- ONSITE APPLICATION
Once your coding team has finished the ICD-10 training YPRO will send AHIMA ICD- 10 Trained trainers onsite to work with your coding team applying their newly acquired ICD-10 coding skills to actual case studies. While this is an optional service it is recommended to solidify the web- based education and to help with productivity issues. In order to reach your total coding staff and still keep your coding staff performing current coding, YPRO offers morning and afternoon sessions. Depending on the size of your coding staff this may take any where from one to two weeks.
