CHARGE DESCRIPTION MASTER
The Charge Description Master (CDM) is a critical revenue tool that needs to be monitored continually. Often facilities do not have the staff or advanced knowledge to keep the CDM current. The CDM must remain updated and continually assessed to provide maximum revenue for the hospital. Changes in services provided by ancillary departments, the addition of a new procedure, the addition of new equipment or the addition of a different reference lab may require a code to be added or revised on the Chargemaster. CPT codes are change by the government at a minimum of once a year. And now all changes go into effect on the date noted by the government. No more grace days exist.
YPRO offers several Chargemaster review and maintenance options. The client can select the level of the review/maintenance needed and thereby pay only for the service needed.
Chargemaster Review Options:
1. Chargemaster Review -YPRO will take your line item listing of your chargemaster and validate accuracy including revenue codes, HCPCS and charge explode, description, price discrepancy, and bundling issues and update it to match the current coding regulations. Your Chargemaster is easily sent to YPRO's offsite Chargemaster Review office. A written report is provided to the client detailing the findings of the review that includes an electronic file of additions, changes and deletions. A follow-up review will be provided one-month after the facility has received the initial changes to verify accuracy. A written summary will be provided to advise the client of findings.
2. UB-92 Charge Capture Review - "Are we capturing all of our charges?" YPRO can help you answer this question by performing a comprehensive review of your charge capture procedures by department. The UB-92, physician order, test/surgery performed, charge sheet submitted by department, chargemaster and remittance advice will be analyzed to ensure all charges are being captured. Additionally, an analysis is conducted to ensure all ancillary departments are appropriately charging for services rendered and that payers are correctly reimbursing your facility.
3. Comprehensive CDM Department Review - YPRO will interview your department director, review charge tickets and printouts of order entry screens against the CDM. Examples of denials and/or problem billing issues will be addressed in the review.
4. Comprehensive CDM Update/Review -All of the above three services plus quarterly update maintenance.
Chargemaster Maintenance Options:
1. Quarterly Update Maintenance -Because Chargemasters are considered a "work in progress" and because many facilities do not have the manpower ability to designate a separate Chargemaster upkeep department, YPRO offers the service of providing facilities with quarterly and adhoc updates of new codes a published by CMS. YPRO will notify the client's departments of additions, changes and deletions. Quarterly reports are provided to Administration and the Department Directors.
2. Chargemaster Team Facilitator -A facility may decide to maintain Chargemaster on their own. YPRO can assist in developing a Chargemaste Team. The YPRO facilitator will define roles and responsibilities, provide tools, develop policy and procedures, develop and train for internal monitoring, monitor progress and provide an administrative report .
3. Continuous Chargemaster Monitoring -YPRO is your Chargemaster Team Leader. YPRO will monitor, edit and update your Chargemaster.
